European Paintings Pre-1900

The Subject Specialist Network: European Paintings pre-1900 is a free network for UK museum and gallery professionals working with European paintings in the Western tradition from the 13th to the 19th century.

The network forms part of the National Gallery’s nationwide programme and provides a friendly professional forum to facilitate the sharing of knowledge, expertise and best practice, but also success stories and challenges relating to collections of European paintings pre-1900. Topics covered are wide ranging and include research, conservation and scientific analysis, interpretation, display and public engagement.

The network offers a programme of study days, workshops, collaborative conferences and networking opportunities and supports members with travel bursaries and research grants where possible. Applications for membership are welcome from individuals working with and/or researching relevant collections in curatorial roles, exhibitions, collections management, learning, conservation and universities. Those in the early stages of their museum career are particularly encouraged to apply.
